Gradually accelerated growth, from the first early patents to artificial intelligence
Rain was born in 1968 from the creativity and entrepreneurial skills developed in the irrigation equipment sector by engineer Vittorio Stiatti. The company originally had a markedly commercial focus that has evolved over time. The second generation of the family with Anna, Alberto and Matteo Stiatti has taken the company decisively forward, with a strong manufacturing focus.
The company is well established within its territory, north of Milan, as a manufacturing enterprise, effectively utilising its valuable resources and developing rich new partnerships. Concrete examples of this are the commitment to the low environmental impact of production and electricity savings. Approximately one third of current energy consumption is covered by photovoltaics and this will soon rise to over 60%. Rain also limits water consumption by optimising all production steps thanks to artificial intelligence.
Irrigation systems are produced here in the belief that sustainability, in the medium and long term, is also profitable. In fact, Rain works on constantly improving its operations in every aspect, taking care of the entire production value chain, from its valuable and experienced staff to customer satisfaction, from the choice of suppliers to respect for the environment. Last but not least, all machinery is periodically renewed to be fully compliant and certifiably safe for staff.
The results have been significant, as Rain has multiplied its size and turnover from a staff of only six at the beginning to around 50 people in 2023.The number of patents filed has also increased over the years. But the greatest source of satisfaction for the company is the great and long-lasting loyalty of its customers over time. A wonderful achievement which has been built over time on a day by day basis.
Made in Rain
For 40 years, Rain’s entire production process has been in-house, from design to production, especially that of our solenoid valves. But the controllers and all the components around the valve box are almost totally self-produced.

Our history
Rain S.p.A. Foundation
The company was born from the creativity and dedication of Vittorio Stiatti, who patented the now legendary Pioggiatore, an electromechanical irrigation control unit.
Production of solenoid valves begins
Rain also began producing solenoid valves, developing a wide range of models over two decades to meet needs in agriculture, sports facilities and gardens.
The new headquarters in Cerro Maggiore and the EZ-Open line are born
The second generation of the Stiatti family began to boost the company’s manufacturing activities. Not surprisingly, these years saw the birth of the EZ-Open valve box line, with its famous patented handle for easy opening of the lid.
Connecting with the territory
In the mid-1990s, Rain began developing partnerships with local companies, the first of which was L’Arca, today Cooperativa Anteo. In the decades to come it will consolidate its social commitment by launching ongoing projects with other cooperatives in the Milanese hinterland, Il Mandorlo and La Ruota.
The era of the Manifold System begins
Rain patents the Manifold, a pre-assembled system that, when rotated, allows pipes and fittings to be connected directly into the valve box: an idea as simple as it is ingenious! In the same year, the company expanded its production activities by building a new warehouse.
Rain wins the Horizon 2020 call for tenders
Horizon is the EU programme that financially supports European companies in research and innovation. Thanks to the funding from the call, the Smart Vision™ Irrigation concept begins to take root in the in-house R&D department.
Rain is awarded the Gold Medal by the Municipality of Cerro Maggiore
For being a company in step with the times, able to invest, grow and compete in the global market.
Rain wins the Champions of Export 2022 award from Il Sole 24 Ore and Statista
Rain wins the Champions of Export 2022 award from Il Sole 24 Ore and Statista. It also obtains the Prime Company from Cribis, an award for highest commercial reliability based on the Cribis Rating, a dynamic and constantly updated indicator.
