Choosing the right components to make an irrigation system efficient is essential to maintain proper water management, reduce maintenance work and make your system sustainable. The right irrigation components help you save time, water and money.
In this article, we will guide you in choosing the 5 essential components for your irrigation system, following the order of the water flow in the system.
Let’s start with the controller, the brain of the system. Without it, the flow of water wouldn’t start. The controller – also referred to as ‘programmer’ – is, in fact, the main component for managing automatic irrigation. It automates and programmes the timing, duration and frequency of irrigation. It allows you to optimise water use and reduce waste. There are three types: tap timers, valve box and wall-mounted controllers. For even more flexible use, you can rely on a controller that can be managed remotely.
Solenoid valves are the devices that regulate the opening and closing of the water flow, based on the impulse they receive from the control unit. Precisely for this reason, the component that receives the signal, the solenoid, can be 24Vac or 9Vdc depending on the programmer that controls them.
Rain valves are particularly easy to install, being equipped with our patented Manifold connection – a rotating ring nut that facilitates maintenance directly inside the valve box, without the use of any tool.
Fittings are connectors that allow you to join pipes and other components of the irrigation system. To create secure connections and enable water to flow without leaks, they must be of high quality and watertight.
They are made of resistant materials such as PVC, polypropylene (P.P.) or polyethylene, and can have different shapes (straight, T-shaped, elbow-shaped, jointed) depending on the system layout. The range available in our catalogue meets a great variety needs: all are designed to allow excellent sealing and extremely fast maintenance.
Filters for irrigation systems are used to filter the water and keep it clean. They prevent pipes from becoming blocked and valves from being damaged. They prevent the accumulation of dust, sand, algae, debris or other impurities. They prolong the life of the system by preventing blockages and are easy to maintain.
There are different types of filters, such as mesh, disc or in-line filters, each one suitable for specific filtering and system protection needs. Mesh filters are ideal for water with larger debris, disc filters offer long-lasting protection against fine particles, while in-line filters, which are easy to fit on pipes, are perfect for smaller systems and are easy to maintain.
Again, if you want to know more about them, you can find all the available types on our website.
Finally, we have sprinklers, the elements that distribute water evenly over the surface. They dispense water in the form of drops or jets, imitating natural rain. They can be sprays or rotors, and are chosen according to the surface to be irrigated. They are designed to ensure homogeneous irrigation and avoid evaporation and excessive drainage. A third type of sprinkler is the multi-jet, also known as a ‘low consumption’ sprinkler, ideal for obtaining maximum water efficiency without waste.
The shape of the sprinklers, the type of jet and the precipitation method optimise water use, generating considerable savings. Our catalogue includes many models for each type.
Whether you’re about to build your first irrigation system or you want to optimise your current system, we recommend investing in quality components: using the right products will allow your system to work at its best and your plants to grow lush and healthy.
